Ready to get started

Hi. I'm a 44 year-old who has had a life long dream of writing novels. I wrote quite a bit as a teenager. My teachers, family and friends always seemed to enjoy my stories. I started my family while in my 20s so that kept me very busy. Now I'm nearly an empty nester so I have the bug again. I have several story lines in my head. I want to get started writing but I've forgotten some of the basics. I think once I get started it will all come pouring out (I hope). Is there anyone else out there that's been in a similar situation and can advise me?

Jeffery Gitomer (sales guru) is a very entertaining, cut-to-the-chase, thought-provoking writer who often has tip for others to get started writing. Here is one such note from his online newsletter:
Here’s how to begin your personal journal (and your personal journey):
1. Pick a topic. Title it. And start writing until you have nothing more to say. Don’t think about it, don’t worry about where to start, or what to say -- just write. And write as fast as you can.
2. Wanna know the secret of writing? Write like you talk. Write as if you were speaking to someone else, and the story or the idea will just flow.
3. Wanna know the secret of editing? Edit later. Let it sit for a day or two. Re-read it. Wanna know the biggest secret of editing? Read it aloud. If you read it aloud, all edits will be evident.
3.5 Be consistent. Set an imaginary weekly deadline. Never miss it.

note well: You’re doing this for yourself. Others may benefit, but you are the one that benefits the most.

You can go to his website at www.gitomer.com and type in writing for the search keyword to get more info

Good luck!

Go for it, Lovinlife. Linda just shared some user-friendly tips.
Now identify the recurring time of day when your mind is in "writing mode" ....keep a Big Chief tablet and #2 pencil handy (in the car, too) and write when the mind is right. Enjoy!

Hi, I'm 45 and have been working off and on (mostly off) on my 1st novel for 2 years. It's hard for me to find the time to write. I have a demanding full-time career and my husband and I just opened a retail business with another couple that we do "on the side." I'm joining this blog looking for inspiration! Let me know how your writing goes!
