Friend in need - do groups help?

I have a dear friend who is divorcing after 29 years of marriage - same ol' story, he ran off with a much younger woman. She is hesitant to join the divorce support group at her church because she thinks it will just make her feel worse with everyone complaining about their exes all the time. She's not a big online person either so she probably won't come here. Do groups help with constructive advice or are they just places to vent?

Debster52, I am sorry about your divorce. I have become my friend's most trusted advisor through this nightmare of hers and am trying to get her to move from the 'sad' to 'mad' stage...which may not be realistic because it's still fresh. Good luck to you.

I too divorced after many (32) years because of a younger woman. It has been 8 years and the sad creeps in very rarely now but the mad never goes away

Me too. After 29 years, I divorced 3 years ago. The sad and lonely do creep in occasionally, then go away; come back in waves and then go away. Less strongly than at the beginning, but still there.
