Step lively ... and aim for big numbers
Wednesday, June 11, 2008
I've heard many recommendations to use a pedometer and try to walk 10,000 steps a day. I've been using one for years and usually meet or exceed the target. But most of my steps are at a normal walking pace — just to get wherever I'm going. What I usually don't manage is 30 minutes of exercise a day. The 10,000 steps can't be the same thing as 30 minutes of exercise a day. How do these fit together?
As I see fit

I have no problem ‘fessing my age, 61, as long as you don’t use those numbers to limit or define me. And, if you have a problem with that, we can meet in the parking lot to settle the matter (just kidding!). My 61 may just be your 36: healthy, fit, vibrant, curious and sexy.

Easy exercises to prehab your tennis game
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
My friends say I’m like a broken record when I tell them “An ounce of Prehab is Worth a Pound of Rehab”. But with the rising number of baby boomers and beyond taking to the tennis courts, this phrase rings true especially if you’re interested in staying literally, in the game!
Zumba: aerobics to a Latin beat
Thursday, April 10, 2008
Zumba is a fitness class with multiple personalities. One minute you're writhing around like a sensual belly dancer. Next, you're turning your hips to the rousing Latin beats. And just as quickly, the music changes and you're now a cowboy, riding an invisible horse and shaking your fist in the air.
Unhappy with your backside? Take a hike
Sunday, April 6, 2008
Are you happy with your butt? Most of us aren’t. They’re too big, too saggy, too soft, and I’ve even heard men complain of having “lost” theirs. (“Honey, have you seen my glutes anywhere?”)
Need a good night’s sleep? Try easy aerobics
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
We all love a good night’s sleep. But did you know that not getting one not only makes you dull and stressed, it can also make you pack on the pounds? Too little physical activity is clearly part of why we’re overweight.
Exercise is a great way to find new relationships

Do you need to increase your network of close friends? Do you need to enlarge your social world to help you feel less lonely? If so, think about getting involved in some sort of exercise program. It's easy to meet new people this way.
Fitness, prevention can decrease risk of falling
Sunday, March 9, 2008
Q: My mother, who is 80, just fell down and broke her hip. I am 53 and have just been diagnosed with osteoporosis. We both have arthritis. What can we both do to make sure we don't fall down and break our bones?
