California's Cambria: Much more than a quaint beachside town

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

The town of Cambria didn't invent the word "quaint," but it has certainly embraced it. The storefronts along Main Street look like something out of a European village. Inside, they are an eclectic collection: antiques, outdoor decor, local art, magic paraphernalia, rubber stamps and dozens more.

Captivated by Solvang

Sunday, May 25, 2008

Solvang charms you even before you get into town. It’s located in the Santa Ynez wine valley — rolling green hillsides with a big blue sky overhead. A bit north of Los Angeles, just outside Santa Barbara. It's the perfect place for a girlfriend getaway. And I do mean perfect.

A B&B in Boston’s Italian North End

Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008

The North End is still a very cool area of Boston and, unlike NYC’s Little Italy, it remains the place where many of Italian heritage still choose to live. That’s its charm. Narrow streets, lots of little Italian restaurants, neighborhood folks coming and going, a neighborhood school.

Looking for some stress relief? Try Charlotte Harbor, Fla.

Friday, Dec. 14, 2007

My friends and I had enough of grumpy husbands, psycho cats, goofy dogs, piles of laundry, housecleaning, grocery shopping, and for two of us, kids - so Paula and Deborah (the two with kids) and me (the one with psycho kitties) decided to hit the road for a girlfriends' getaway with nothing more to worry about than just how deeply we would stick our toes into the white sands of the gulf beaches, how many frilly-umbrella-adorned rum cocktails we would sample, and how much seafood and desserts we could devour without sending our daily caloric intake into orbit.

Wherever we went at the Grand Canyon, we ran into folks from around the world, almost like you do at Disney World. We truly have an outstanding natural wonder that everyone seems to enjoy.

How to avoid a hotel nightmare

Does 'clean' enter into hotel ratings?

Friday, Aug. 17, 2007

You’d like to think that any hotel at all that is rated with a star or diamond or any rating system has at least passed the basic “clean” test. But is that always the case? Not necessarily.

Try a turn-key NYC girlfriends getaway

Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007

Let's face it, New York is a big city. It takes a lot of Internet surfing to find a decent hotel. To book your flight. To get show tickets, an airport shuttle or whatever else you want to include in your getaway. Have you ever considered letting the getaway planning pros put your getaway package together for you? Saves you a ton of time, a lot of headaches and money, too.<
