It's strawberry season, and I'm on a nostalgia kick. My grandmother had a jumbo patch behind Granddad's coon dog pen on their farm near Lamar, Mo. The red dirt was mined with bits and chunks of sharp flint, and even though we kids already had a good start on summer feet, we trod gingerly on their property.
