Today's BBC story has confirmed what I realized some months ago but chose to ignore - it takes more than 40 minutes a day on the treadmill to lose weight. (As someone once memorably said, "It's not denial; I'm just selective about the reality I choose to accept.)
55 minutes of "moderate exercise." That's the magic number, according to the University of Pittsburgh study. That's what it takes, five days a week - at the minimum - for women to lose weight and maintain that loss. At the minimum. ARGH!!!!
Well, I have to tell you, this is a bit of a blow. At a doctor's suggestion to lower blood pressure, I've been putting in 40 minutes a day, 5 days a week, religiously, for months. Do you have any idea how LONG 40 minutes is on a treadmill, even watching that adorable Matt Lauer on 'close caption' and listening to Radiohead on the iPod??!
I'm going to need a new mindset - and exercise playlist - if they expect me to go a full hour on the hamster wheel.
Then again, I wonder if regular, uninterrupted blogging could be considered "moderate exercise"?
