Had a harsh reality check this morning when I wore my trusty (free) pedometer on the treadmill After 43 minutes, I had logged under 6000 steps. What's up with that? And how am I going to come up with another 4000 to meet my daily goal of 10,000?
Admittedly, I go through phases with this 10,000 step business. The incessant counting and calculating wears me out. In fact, the only reason I donned the pedometer this morning was because I happened to find it buried deep in the junk drawer last night. (The tiny pedometer is a freebie, by the way, at this Web site sponsored by Tylenol. There you'll find suggested exercises to help you "outsmart arthritis," along with a recommended workout schedule and downloadable fitness log. Of course, they hope you consider their pain relief products, as well.)
Fortunately, I'm not suffering from arthritis just yet, but I'm convinced that walking the equivalent of 5 miles a day is a worthy goal to strive for. Here's a Web site that gives you ideas on how to up the tally on your pedometer by making small changes in your daily routine.
I'm going to need all the help I can get.
