Life by Number: A new snooze button record

Thanks to a boisterous thunderstorm that jolted me out of bed after midnight last night - and kept me awake for the next two-and-a-half hours - I pushed the snooze button to the limit this morning, breaking my personal record.

Trouble is, I was snoozing and not exactly counting. But the alarm was set for 6 a.m. and you can see what time I finally dragged my weary bod out of bed. Let's call it six. Six strikes at the snooze button, shattering the old record by a good 3 snoozes. A fitting way to start the last day before the holiday, don't you think?

I would like to see a voice-activated snooze feature on future alarm clocks, though, to save us the trouble of rolling over and groping for the button. Seems like we ought to be able to say, "Ten more minutes, please" or "Back off, buster....momma needs her beauty sleep!" and the clock would instantly oblige.

Note to self and BoomerGirl readers: Remember to turn off alarm clocks tonight if you want to sleep in tomorrow. Nothing ruins the 4th of July faster than an unwelcomed blast at 6 am.

What's your personal snooze button record?

1. I am overly disciplined about this. In fact, I rarely use the snooze. But thank you for the alarm clock reminder. I have awaken to the alarm more times than I can count, on Christmas, New Year's Day, etc. and it's maddening!!

I've always been afraid that, in my case, the snooze button would be a gateway drug to total sloth.

My husband used to hit the snooze button twice, every morning like clock work (SORRY!) I used to ask him why he didn't just set the alarm for ten minutes later and he said it wouldn't be the same.

"Gateway drug to total sloth" - good one, Suzy! You're right. Ironically, I feel no more rested for having hit that snooze button all those times, than I would if I'd just have gotten up on time. "Snoozing" is no substitute for real sleep.
