Life by number: 12 hours 'til home

It’s going to be a long haul in the car today. Nothing else to do but crunch the numbers. Here’s how my summer vacation shakes out, quantitatively:

Days away from home: 9

Number of hotels/motels/resorts/guest rooms slept in: 5

Beatles spotted along Route 66: 0

Almost-encounters with Beatles in art gallery: 1

Margaritas sampled: 13 (Note: That’s margaritas only, not a total cocktail count)

Tortilla chips nibbled on, with salsa: 140 (approx.)

Mud baths taken: 1

Number of times I applied Burt’s Bees to my parched lips: 45

Nalgenes full of water consumed to avoid altitude sickness: Countless

Miles to go before we get home: 740

Total number of miles we will have traveled: 1848

Dollars spent on gas: I don’t even want to know.

Gudrun, you're very welcome. The Bavarian was one of my favorite stops and Thomas was a great guy (a real visionary, too.) Look for additional photos of the Inn - and a lot more shots I didn't have time to post - in the coming days. Thanks for riding along on a memorable vacation. We're finally home after 11+ hours in the car. Not wanting to drive anywhere for a while...

I really enjoyed it, too, and I hope to follow your footsteps in New Mexico someday soon. Have always wanted to go but tend to end up in Arizona ...for the golf courses! Thanks for the travelogue.

I lived in Santa Fe in the late 70''s and had the time of my life. It's all changed now as the area has grown and become cost prohibitive for those of us who would like to return.
