Here's just the bargain for cool fall mornings: a down-filled vest from Lands' End.
The price: $24.50 for men's and women's sizes; $19.50 for kids. (Women's plus sizes are $29.50.)
According to Lands' End, the vests — which are filled with 70 percent goose down and 30 percent goose feathers — will keep you toasty in temps as cold as 15 degrees.
Add a layer underneath and you'll be warm when it gets down to 0.

Sweater time (for you too, guys)
Cashmere is appropriate every day of the year, though I recognize now is the time many people — myself included, as I just bought a brown crew neck on sale — think about replenishing their stock of sweaters.
I was relating news of my purchase to a male friend when I suggested he update his wardrobe with a cashmere sweater, preferably a black or navy blue V-neck because it can be dressed up or down and looks cute on almost anyone.
He said sweaters are too hot.
"My sweater phase is behind me," he added. "Besides, I don't go anywhere."
My friend is single and during his sweater phase was, I'm told, quite popular. Since abandoning sweaters, he's less so.
Which is no coincidence. In the eyes of most women, guys in V-neck cashmere sweaters are quite darling.
My friend perked up a bit. Could cashmere be the key to improving his social life? I think he's considering a trip to the mall! Where to look?
Try the cashmere departments at J. Crew, Banana Republic and Macy's.
Prices vary, though you should be able to find something on sale for under $100.
Red Nano raises AIDS funds
I'm smitten with the red iPod Nano.
It's one of the special-edition (Product) Red items that are fund-raisers for the fight against AIDS in Africa.
The Nano is $199, and $10 goes to the Global Fund. To find a store: www.apple.com.
