Online shopping site of the week: Sugarbush Farm (www.sugarbushfarm.com)
While on vacation in Vermont a few years back, we visited Sugarbush Farm in Woodstock for a little tour and a little syrup and cheese sampling. We’ve been ordering from them ever since.
The 550-acre family farm is classic, scenic Vermont and produces some fabulous cheese and syrup. The cheese focus is on cheddar with varieties ranging from sharp to smoked and flavors incorporating sage, onions, salami and horseradish. A variation on Monterey Jack, blue cheese and a light cheese are also available. My favorite, by far: The Extra Aged Sharp Cheddar, which has been aged 28-38 months.
On the sticky side, syrups come in grades from Fancy (the lightest) to Grade B (the darkest). I recommend the Grade A Dark Amber.
Also available: gift boxes (perfect for the holidays!), New England pantry staples (jams, honey, crackers) and smoked meats.
Prices range from $14.95 for four, 4-ounce cheese samples, to $98.50 for the Bounty of Vermont gift package.
If you can’t find the cheese you’re looking for at Sugarbush, check out the list of Vermont cheese companies put out by the Vermont Cheese Council (www.vtcheese.com/vtcheese/companies.htm).
